Uncreamery Dill Havarti Grilled Cheese with Ham
This savory, elevated grilled cheese features the creamy, herb-infused Dill Havarti from The Uncreamery. This almond-based, artisan cheese provides a buttery melt and a bright punch of fresh dill that perfectly complements savory slices of plant-based ham. Pressed between two slices of golden, buttery sourdough, it’s a sophisticated and flavorful twist on a classic comfort food staple.
Ingredients
- 4 slices Thick-cut white bread such as sourdough or a sturdy farmhouse white
- 8 oz Uncreamery Dill Havarti sliced or thick crumbles
- 4 slices 4 slices Vegan ham plant-based deli style
- 2 tbsp Vegan butter for griddling
- 1 tsp Fresh dill optional, for garnish
- 1 pinch Sea salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Butter the Bread: Spread a thin, even layer of vegan butter on one side of each slice of white bread.
- Layer the Base: Place two slices of bread, buttered-side down, in a cold skillet or on a griddle.
- Add the Dill Havarti: Evenly distribute the Uncreamery Dill Havarti slices or crumbles onto the bread. Using plenty of cheese ensures that iconic “melt” that holds the sandwich together.
- Fold your vegan ham slices slightly so they are thicker in the middle, then place them over the cheese. Position one edge of the ham so it hangs slightly over the edge of the bread—this creates the "peeking through" effect once the sandwich is closed.
- Season and Close: Add a pinch of sea salt and pepper over the ham, then top with the remaining bread slices, buttered-side up.
- Grill to Perfection: Turn the heat to medium-low. Grill for 3–5 minutes per side, pressing down gently with a spatula. You want a slow melt for the Dill Havarti and a deep golden-brown crunch on the bread.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove from the heat. If desired, sprinkle a tiny bit of fresh dill over the top for a pop of color. Slice diagonally to showcase the melted cheese and ham layers.
